Wrexham forward Faye Knox and former Aberystwyth Town forward Lleucu Mathias earn Cymru U23s call-ups

Wrexham AFC forward Faye Knox and Durham winger Lleucu Mathias have earned call-ups to the newly introduced Cymru U23s side, ahead of the October camp next week.

Nia Davies has announced her squad for the upcoming Cymru U23s training camp on October 4th, as 19 players come together in the first U23s squad since it was added to the national player pathway in August, in order to bridge the gap between the U19s and senior side.

Two players with Genero Adran Premier connections are involved. Faye Knox, who currently plays her football in the league with Wrexham, earns a spot in the U23s, having previously represented Cymru at U17s and U19s level. Having joined The Red Dragons from Bolton Wanderers last year. Knox has been a standout for Wrexham since signing, with 30 goal contributions in 27 matches in all competitions.

The 21-year-old was crucial in Wrexham’s double winning season, lifting the Genero Adran Premier league title and the Genero Adran Trophy.

Currently with Durham and Durham Cestria in the English football pyramid, 19-year-old winger Lleucu Mathias receives her first ever callup to a Cymru age group squad.

Having developed through the youth of Newcastle Emlyn, Mathias spent two years with top flight side Aberystwyth Town, making her debut at 15 years old at Park Avenue, and contributed to 22 goals in 49 games in all competitions. Mathias has also represented Ceredigion and Welsh Schools in her youth.

Mathias was key to Aberystwyth’s impressive 2023/24 campaign, with The Seasiders going on to finish 4th in the Genero Adran Premier, and reaching the Genero Adran Trophy Semi-Finals. After joining Durham in 2025, Mathias has been a regular for Cestria in the FA Women’s National League and for the PGA side at the club.

Both players are expected to join up with the U23s squad on Sunday 4th October.
