A big week awaits for Swansea City in the Genero Adran U19s Championship Conference, beginning with a crucial top of the table clash between The Swans and Cardiff Met on Good Friday.
After Cardiff Met were defeated again by Taffs Well last week, it has put Swansea City potentially within seven days of the Championship title. Make no mistake about it though, this will be an incredibly tough challenge against The Archers.
Richard Harris’ side were 10-1 winners against Penybont last time out. Ellie Gibbins, a Susanna Cunningham brace, and Lowri Jones gave Swansea the lead going into the break, before second half doubles from substitutes Grace Tilley and Alix Green, alongside a Megan-Ruby Clarke and Grace John finish, wrapped up the game for the hosts.
Incredibly, Penybont goalkeeper Georgia Tarullo scored the only goal for the visitors, from second-half kickoff.
Taffs Well put three past Met last week. Abby Rose, Molly Ridge and Alys Grant were all on the scoresheet, a result which saw The Wellwomen move up to 4th. Whilst the title may well be out of reach for Taffs Well, they have proved a difficult outfit for teams to earn points from.
To stay in the title race, Met have to respond, in arguably a ‘six-pointer’ at the top, but they do have the upper hand from their last meeting in Phase Two.
An early Hannah Rayner double in January helped Met on their way to a 4-2 win. Gracie Howard and Grace Baynham also scored in that game, which sets up for a close-encounter Llandarcy on Friday night.
Swansea will also face Llanelli Town AFC away from home on Tuesday night, with The Reds coming into that game on the back of their first win of Phase Two, and going two games unbeaten.
Early goals from Abigael Pritchard and Sophia Bevan would be enough in a 2-1 victory against Penybont on Wednesday evening. Amy Chamberlain continued an impressive season with a late second-half goal, but it was Llanelli who would claim a key result.
That win followed a 3-3 draw against Cascade YC last week, Llanelli’s first point of Phase Two. Grace Rodde gave Llanelli the lead, before a quickfire double from Trinity Reakes saw Cascade go ahead.
The Reds went back in front after a Danni Webster double, and it looked like Llanelli would secure their first win that day, but a late leveller from Emily Well for Cascade saw both sides go away with a point.
Cascade also play on Tuesday night, hosting Taffs Well at CCB Centre For Sporting Excellence.
Wrexham AFC play twice in the next few days in the only two games of the Premier Conference.
Grace Morris’ equaliser claimed a point in the capital against Cardiff City on Sunday. Elffin Bryant put The Bluebirds ahead, but the points would be shared in a 1-1 draw.
It means Wrexham are without a win in three games, and will be looking to put that right when Carmarthen Town visit The Rock on Friday night.
The Old Gold are on an incredible run of form, winning their last four games, and were briefly top of the league last week after a dominant 5-1 win against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
Ophelia Jenkins scored twice, whilst there were also goals for Libby Hayhurst, Grace Dobney and an own goal.
Megan Copeland hit back for Ferry, but it wouldn’t be enough at the LHP Stadium.
On a positive note for Briton Ferry, they progressed into the Semi-Finals of the West Wales Challenge Cup on Sunday, in a 3-2 win against Llanelli Town AFC’s senior team.
Isabelle Cullen scored a brace, whilst there was a goal for Isabella Lewis, her first since joining Ferry from Coity Chiefs.
Roger Webb’s side join Swansea City U19s, Carmarthen Town and Pure Swansea in the final four.
Wrexham are also playing on Tuesday night, against nearby rivals The New Saints, who will be looking to continue their push at the top end of the league.
Not playing this week, but Barry Town United ensured they remained top on Sunday with a 7-0 win against Connah’s Quay Nomads in North Wales.
A relentless display from The Linnets saw Tom Davies’ side take a 3-0 lead into the break. Lucy Coles, Rhiannon Khan and Barry skipper Ava Coomer all scored in the first half.
Coles scored again eight minutes into the second half, with Hope Rees also getting on the scoresheet just after the hour mark.
Barry defender Phoebe Birnage hadn’t scored for The Linnets before Sunday, but scored twice with 20 minutes to go, to round off an impressive display from the travelling league leaders.
