It’s the start of another season in the Cymru leagues which begins with Nathaniel MG Cup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guilsfield were hoping to start the season as they ended it with 5 consecutive wins at the end of the season. When Manager Gavin Allen took over late last October to the end of the season, they were unbeaten at home under his leadership. They reached the Semi-Final of this competition 2 years ago in that run they knocked out two Cymru Premier teams Newtown and then Holders Bala Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s opponents Mold Alexandra had lost in the First Round in the last 3 years, could they end that run?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So Mold’s Luke Edwards kicked off the Cup Tie, but it was Guilsfield who started the stronger looking pacey and outmuscling their opponents it was no surprise when the home team took the lead when in the 14th minute IWAN MATTHEWS <\/em><\/strong>put his side ahead with a volley inside the 6 yard area<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guilsfield doubled their lead on the half an hour mark when James Smallwood took a free kick and New Signing SAM FLORY <\/strong>who was signed from Whitchurch Allport in summer jumped the highest and with a towering header directed it into the top corner, for his first goal for his new club on his debut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second half with Guilsfield still on the front foot especially with the electric pace of James Smallwood putting in dangerous crosses in and it was from one of them crosses that resulted in a corner. Guilsfield Captain Jake Cook took a corner swung it in and ADAM KNOTT <\/strong>rose above the Mold defender to head in Guilsfield third goal after 63 minutes their was no way back for Mold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It could of been more but for the brilliant defending of Mold Alexandra Morgan Roberts who put his body on the line when it looked like Flory would score his second goal and the same could be said of Matthews when his header went towards goal and Roberts also stopped another goal with a great tackle when Smallwood dangerous cross looked inviting for both forwards. Flory and Matthews hold up play plus with their pace gave headaches all night to the Mold defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was right at the end when Mold Alexandra created anything when Captain Henry Nash put a cross into Gregson who headed wide and Gregson whose header provided a chance for Emmanuel Lawal at the back post who couldn’t get the ball out of his feet and went straight into the hands of a relieved Guilsfield goalkeeper Luke Evans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris Cathrall (Guilsfield) One of the most under rated defenders in the Cymru Leagues in my opinion. Whether he is going forward his long throws and his superb positioning in any part of their defence. Always a consistent performer whenever I watch him in a Guilsfield shirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An impressive display and a clean sheet from the Mid Wales side who meet Bala Town in Round Two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A poor night for Mold plenty for Barry Owen and Liam Groves to take away and work on ready for their opening league game next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
