It’s the first Player In Focus of 2026, and with that, we’re doing something a bit different!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To Tier Three we go, and more specifically the South Wales Women’s and Girls League (SWWGL), where the Combined League has seen a very competitive race for the title, and leading the way is Llanrumney United.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by former Cardiff City striker Catherine Walsh, and with Siobhan Walsh and Zoe Atkins also in the management team, Llanrumney are building something special, having won promotion from SWWGL Division One last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best part about it though, is that it’s a group of players who are simply enjoying football again, with many of the squad falling out of love with the game in previous years. With that said, there’s a lot of top quality in the side, who have played much higher before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you go to watch the Cardiff-based side, within minutes you’ll notice their number 10, Rosina Hill. A left footed attacking midfielder, with incredible flair and vision, but also an eye for goal, creativity that many teams just cannot handle playing against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicknamed ‘Totti’ very early on in her career, here’s a deep dive into the career of Rosina Hill<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early beginnings with Mountain Ash Town in her youth, Hill played in Rhondda up until an age where mixed football with boys wasn’t an option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With limited opportunities for girls in football at the time, she didn’t play competitively again until turning 18, instead playing socially and at school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She would then join Pontypridd Town, in her first senior football chapter, where she impressed in a left wing role. Her ability in front of goal has been prominent throughout her career, and it was no different at the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her talent was clear, and it wouldn’t be long until she was playing at a high level, with Welsh Women’s Premier League side Cyncoed. She joined the club in 2017. It’s where she adopted the nickname ‘Totti’.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A team full of top players, many of who still play in the Genero Adran Premier, Hill won the Welsh Women’s League Cup in 2018 (now known as the Genero Adran Trophy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beating Cardiff Met in the final 1-0, with Julia Moulton scoring the winner, Cyncoed also had to beat Swansea City to win the competition, a game which Rosina Hill scored in to win 3-2. Met and the Swans were the two most successful clubs in the domestic game at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a few seasons in the top flight with Cyncoed, Hill joined SWWGL Division One side Pontypridd FC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 goal contributions in 2022\/23 for Rosina helped Ponty on their way to the Division One title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stayed another season with the club before moving on, with the team finishing 6th in tier three, where she would contribute to 27 more goals, with 17 of those being assists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that number of goals set up, she was far out in front of anyone else for that tally in the league.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now with Llanrumney United, joining last season when the club formed a women’s senior side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finishing 2nd in the SWWGL Division One, that finish earned them promotion to the Combined League, one promotion off Adran Leagues football. Rosina Hill finished top scorer in the league with 21 goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward to now, and Catherine Walsh’s side are 12 points clear at the top having won every single league game they’ve played this season. Lots of games in hand to play for teams below, but there’s quite simply nothing more that Llanrumney can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Application for a tier two license has been submitted and the foundations continue to go into place. The key thing about this football club though, is the importance to the local community, and continuing to give the next generation the chance to play football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
