Barry Town United will be looking to bounce back from defeat in the Genero Adran U19s Premier Conference, as the title race continues to heat up.
A 3-2 defeat to Pontypridd United wouldn’t move Barry off the top after results went in their favour, but it puts Ponty right back into the race, with one point now separating the top three.
The Linnets travel to the LHP Stadium on Friday evening to face Carmarthen Town. Huw Evans’ Carmarthen side claimed a point on their travels to Barry in the reverse fixture of Phase Two, which saw a Libby Hayhurst cancel out a Libby Emanuel goal in a 1-1 draw.
This is also a Carmarthen side coming into this game on the back of their first victory of Phase Two, as The Old Gold put nine past Connah’s Quay Nomads in North Wales.
Inspired by substitute Evie Jones, who scored four goals in the game, Ophelia Jenkins scored a brace, whilst Libby Hayhurst, Emilia Siby and Summer Evans were also on the scoresheet.
The Nomads will have the chance to respond on home soil on Sunday, as they host current holders Cardiff City at The Poppies 3G.
City were 4-0 winners of the reverse fixture in South Wales, as Paige Parsons scored a brace, whilst an Alys Wilson penalty and a finish from Elffin Bryant secured a needed three point for Tom Stiley’s side.
A confidence boost at the time of beating Nomads, and a huge result last week for The Bluebirds. A close-range finish from Alys Wilson was enough for Cardiff to claim a 1-0 win against 2nd placed The New Saints. That would be TNS’ first defeat of Phase Two, and with Barry also losing, it ended all unbeaten Premier Conference runs.
After Wrexham beat Briton Ferry Llansawel earlier on in Phase Two, a Sophia Grove brace inspired Ferry to a dominant 5-0 win at Llandarcy last week.
Harley Hodge and Chloe Rudge opened the scoring with long-range efforts, whilst Manon Thomas fired home in the second half to wrap up the scoring for Roger Webb’s side.
Ferry travel to USW Sports Park on Friday night, to face a Pontypridd United side who have shown why they went through Phase One unbeaten in recent weeks. As mentioned previously, a 3-2 victory saw Ponty go within a point of leaders Barry.
Drew Lewis’ side were 3-0 up in the game. An early Chloe Simmonds saw The Dragons take the lead, before a brace from Gwenllian Crane made it three.
Despite Barry’s best efforts of a comeback through Millie Breen and an own goal, it would be Ponty to take all three points from Jenner Park.
They face a Briton Ferry side who have pushed Pontypridd United all the way in the previous two meetings this season, which saw Ponty come out on top on both occasions. The latest of those was headlined by a long-range free-kick finish from Chloe Simmonds, which saw Friday’s hosts respond to their first defeat of the season at the time.
Cardiff Met will be looking to continue their 100% start to Phase Two, when they travel to Penybont in the Championship Conference.
A 5-0 win against Llanelli Town AFC kept Met top last week. Gracei-Mae Howard and Milly Parker put Met two up at the interval, before goals from Ella Tout, Rhian Edwards and Scarlett Davies rounded off the scoring for the Championship leaders.
They face a Penybont side who have had a two week break from action, but will be looking to respond to defeat away at Cascade YC last time out.
Cascade will be looking to respond to a heavy defeat to Aberystwyth Town last week, when they face the The Seasiders again, this time at the CCB Centre For Sporting Excellence.
Hattricks for Amelie Talbot and Lily Moralee-Hughes, a brace for Seren Evans and a finish from Millie Gardner in a 9-0 win, has kept Aberystwyth in the race for top spot in the Championship group.
However, the current closest title rivals to Cardiff Met is Swansea City. The Swans host Llanelli Town at Llandarcy.
Four goals from Lowri Jones saw Richard Harris’ side continue the pressure on Met, in a 4-2 win against Taffs Well. Rianne Jones scored twice for The Wellwomen, but it wouldn’t be enough to claim a positive result.
