Both teams who played on the 9th March were still in search for their first 3 points of the season in the Women’s North East League, and it’s fair to say, during the match, only one team looked dominant in front of goal.
The first half had action which had you on the edge of your seat, with Welshpool remaining dominant throughout. 4 players who continued to nip at the Coedpoeth defence’s heels consisted of Darcy Woolley, Mary Newman, Mia Kaye and Paige Whitehouse, who certainly looked a threat. The Lilywhite’s consistent pressure certainly payed off when in the 35th minute, Whitehouse was brought down in the box by Coedpoeth’s defence. Mia Kaye stood up to take the spot kick, with some good force behind it. Keeper Tiarna Bithell had a good hand towards it and manage to tip it over the cross bar, and so the score line remained 0-0. Despite this, Welshpool continued to hackle and chase down every ball they could find. The only bookings came in the first half too, with Lily Tulloch receiving a yellow for a tug on a yellow shirt, and Coedpoeth’s 14 (non applicable) receiving a booking for a high boot which was brought down on Nat Rowley’s face.
Half Time- Coedpoeth 0: 0 Welshpool
Time substitutes for Coedpoeth consisted of Enya Bellis-Jones replacing 14 N/A and Jade Davies entering the fray for 18 N/A. Welshpool continued their impressive start in the 2nd half and they were rewarded in the 51st minute where Whitehouse floated in a ball to Newman who smashed it into the roof of the net. That makes it 2 goals and 1 assist for Whitehouse in the past 3 matches. In the 67’th minute Lily Denby entered the fray for 15 N/A, and 20 N/A also stepped onto the field for 7 N/A. For Welshpool, 16 Amy Allen replaced 15 Sonya Husband and 13 Tracy Hamer took 2 Sarah Marck’s position in the back. Despite Town continuing to knock on the door of the goal, the couldn’t capitalise on any chances, and the last substitution was shown in the 75th minute Carys Hinds replaced Jade Angela Bowe after her going down.
Full Time- Coedpoeth 0:1 Welshpool
